Pet Friendly Accommodation

Finding pet friendly accommodation on this stretch of the Queensland coast is harder than it should be. Broadwater Haven is pet friendly, and has been for a long time. Your dog is welcome here, with an extra fee and a few sensible conditions.

We are on the Broadwater at Deepwater, on private land, with ten self-contained cabins metres from the water.

The Conditions, Up Front

We would rather be clear about this before you book than sort it out when you arrive.

• Pets stay outside the cabin. Not in the cabin, not on the beds.
• Your dog needs to be well behaved and under control.
• There is an extra fee. Give us a call and we will tell you what it is for your stay.
• Clean up after your dog, the same as you would at home.

That is genuinely it. We are not going to hand you three pages of rules.

Why Dogs Do Well Here

This is a big, quiet property on private land. There is grass, shade, water and space, and there are no crowds to navigate.

Because the only people here are guests, your dog is not weaving through day visitors or strangers’ campsites. The waterfront is right there. Most dogs spend the trip somewhere between the shade and the shallows.

If your dog usually gets left behind because everywhere else says no, this is the sort of place that changes what a holiday looks like.

What You Get

The cabins are the same ones everyone else stays in. Most are two bedroom with a queen and two singles, sleeping up to six, self-contained with a well equipped kitchen, fridge and freezer, microwave, ceiling fans, TV and DVD. Linen is included.

There is a shared laundry, and a camp kitchen with BBQs and a crab cooker. Bait is available onsite at the office.

Things to Do With the Dog Along

Plenty, which is the point.

• Walk the flats. At low tide the sandflats open right up and there is a lot of ground to cover.
• Fish from the bank. Fishing and crabbing start just outside the cabin, so nobody has to be left behind while you go out.
• Sit still. Underrated. The sunrises here are worth getting up for.

Worth knowing: dogs are not permitted in national parks in Queensland, so Deepwater National Park is a day trip for a time when the dog is not with you. There is more than enough to do on the property and along the estuary.

Where We Are

754 Fingerfield Road, Deepwater QLD 4674, roughly halfway between Bundaberg and Gladstone and just north of Baffle Creek.

Baffle Creek is about fifteen minutes away and has a fuel station and general store, a pub, a bottle shop and a takeaway. The road in is sealed, so a conventional car is fine.

If you are coming a long way with a dog in the car, it is an easy last leg. Just fuel up and download your maps before you leave the highway, because reception gets patchy.

Common Questions

Are dogs really allowed?

Yes. An extra fee applies and a few conditions come with it, the main one being that pets stay outside the cabin.

Can my dog come inside the cabin?

No. Pets stay outside the cabin. This keeps the cabins comfortable for guests with allergies.

How much is the pet fee?

Can I take my dog to the national park?

No. Dogs are not permitted in Queensland national parks. There is plenty of space on the property and along the estuary instead.

Is the property fenced?

It is a large open waterfront property rather than a fenced yard, so dogs need to be under control and not left to roam.
